With increased awareness of Health and Safety, and recent reductions in the control limits applying to airborne respirable RCF fibres, many users of insulating fibre products are looking for viable alternatives to RCF.
As mentioned in our Health & Safety > RCF page there are conflicting views on the safety and standards applying to RCF, but in Europe, the EC has classified RCF as 'probably carcinogenic to humans'. However there are a number of alternative man made mineral fibres, notably those based on alkaline earth - silicate chemistry, so called 'body soluble' fibres, which have melting points of from 1300 °C to 1500 °C. These fibres are not classified as carcinogenic because of their chemistry and their bio-solubility.
Brightcross has a range of products available based on these body soluble fibres. We have recently improved and rationalised this range to include :
We believe that both of these products are the best non RCF options available. With superb performance in the handling of molten ferrous and non ferrous metals.
