Refractory Ceramic Fibre (RCF)
RCF (Refractory Ceramic Fibre) is an incredibly versatile material. It is supplied as bulk fibre, and blanket. And with the use of various binders it can be made into flexible paper, felt, rigid board and rigid shapes.
The rigid shapes are produced by a process called vacuum forming. An almost unlimited range of shapes and sizes can be made by this method.
Products made from vacuum formed RCF have excellent insulating properties, a very high melting point ~1750°C, are not wetted by many molten metals and are not easily eroded by flowing molten metal, hence their extensive use as insulating feeders, risers and running systems.
